Top 5 (Tuesday)…Opening Lines

Hey everyone! How are you doing?

I love this week’s topic. Opening lines are important to grasp the readers attention. This had me going through my books and reading all the first lines which I loved as I feel like this made me realise how impactful they can be. It also made me find so many good opening lines.

Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by Shannah at Bionic Book Worm. Check out her blog to know all about the upcoming topics if you want to join in!

Illuminae by Jay Kristoff, Amie Kaufman

First line: ‘This is the file that almost killed me, Director

The Raven Boys by Maggie Steifvater

First line: ‘Blue Sargent had forgotten how many times she’d been told that she would kill her true love

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

First line: ‘The screw through Cinder’s ankle had rusted, the engraved cross marks worn to a mangled circle

What the Wind Knows by Amy Harmon

First line: ‘They say that Ireland is built on her stories‘ (Chapter One)

Even though I’m still in this middle of reading I think it sets the tone. Talks about history and stories being passed down through generations and time. It gives such a homely feeling.

Oh and I put in Chapter one as I didn’t do the first line in the Prologue.

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

First line: ‘It wasn’t a very likely place for disappearances, at least first glance

This might not be the most exciting first line but I remember reading this line gave me an excitement thrill as I had just finished watching the series for the first time.

What are your Top 5 this week?

Until next time…
