First book haul for the year! And this is a bigger book haul than anticipated but I’m excited for each and every book that I will be showing you (well except one but you’ll know when you get to it).
Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett
Genre: Contemporary, YA, Romance
I have mentioned this book a couple of times. It’s been given the description of a teen You’ve Got Mail.
This sounds right up my alley as I love You’ve Got Mail and Jenn Bennett’s writing! From just a glimpse there’s quite a few classic movie references which makes me excited. In Serious Moonlight I loved that there was so many reference to different crime/mystery shows and I absolutely loved it.
My Plain Jane (The Lady Janies #2) by Cynthia Hand, Jodi Meadows, Brodi Ashton
Genre: YA, Historical Fiction, Retelling
This is a Jane Eyre retelling. With a supernatural twist.
It follows the main plot and characters of the classic Jane Eyre but it sounds as though, as well as it being a supernatural twist, really funny. This sounds great! I am sort of familiar with the story of Jane Eyre but the premise of the book immediately caught my attention.
Illuminae (The Illuminae Files #1) by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

I feel like I’m kinda late on jumping on the Illuminae series wagon but I think, for me, the time has come for me to begin. I’ve always been kinda interested in Jay Kristoff’s books but never went to seek them out. That was until I watched BooksandLala’s (Booktuber) video, she loved it, and my interest all of a sudden peaked and in my mind I had to buy all the Jay Kristoff’s.
Illuminae is also by Amie Kaufman and seeing everyone hyped about these two collabing for a series has me excited. Never read anything by either of these authors.
Lifel1k3 (Lifelike #1) by Jay Kristoff
Genre: Science Fiction, YA, Dystopia
I told you that I wanted to buy more Jay Kristoff. The whole description makes me ecstatic to have picked this up. My curiosity started when there was an item (a polaroid) in a Faecrate subscription box. It’s an animated photo of two of the characters. Sounds good and hopefuly I’ll enjoy it!
Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson
Genre: Mystery, YA
Truly Devious is a series that comes up everywhere but never came around to reading it. A YA murder mystery set a private school.
A Study in Pink (Sherlock #1) by Jay (Illustrator and manga adaptation)
Genre: Mystery, Manga
I love the series Sherlock so when I found this I immediately went to buy it and have read it. It felt exactly like the episode A Study in Pink and could just imagine the character’s voices and picture it clearly in my head.
Tweet Cute by Emma Lord
Genre: YA, contemporary
I have been waiting for this release since I heard about it last year. You cannot imagine my joy when I found this in the bookstore and it was the last copy so I wasted no time. Hopefully, I’ll read Tweet Cute this month (maybe for contemporary-a-thon?).
Sick Kids in Love by Hannah Moskowitz
Genre: YA, contemporary
This book is about a girl named Isabel who has rheumatoid arthritis and has given herself a strict rule of no dating until she meets a boy who has a chronic illness and understands her more than anyone else in her life.
I don’t know much about the author but there have been reviews about how well the representation of the chronic illness is and how the discussions have been done well but still kept light. This gives me high hopes.
Winter by Marissa Meyer
Genre: YA, sci-fi
The final installment of the Lunar Chronicles. I’ve only read the first book in this series but I enjoyed it and am happy to have collected the whole series now.
Fix Her Up by Tessa Bailey
Genre: Contemporary, adult
This seems like a fun rom-com and one of my favourite booktubers really loves this book. I hope I enjoy it just as much as it does look light-hearted and a fun time!
Shadow and Ice (God of War) & Frost and Flames (God of War #2) by Gena Showalter
Genre: Paranormal/Fantasy, romance
I’ve been trying to work my way around Gena Showalter’s books and this is another series she’s been currently working on. What I’ve found is that I either love it or is like a 2 star. These seem really interesting as it mentions male and female warriors fight in an All War and it’s a fight to the death. As Gena Showalter’s books go normally they’re full of action scenes and the romance is always hot and heavy. It’s important to note how pretty much her romances are all about lust and alpha males but I also love how her female characters are strong too. As these will have female and male warriors I’m looking forward to see some fierce women against these men haha. For me these are like fun series and quick reads.

If you have read my previous post, January Reads, you’ll know that I DNF’ed this and I’m sad about that. It took me more than usual just to read the first chapter and I just wasn’t vibing with it as much as I wanted to. Maybe I’ll pick it up again or maybe I won’t but all I know is that I’ve put it down and moved on pretty quickly.
The Raven and the Dove by Kaitlyn Davis

I am so excited to have been accepted this e-arc. I mentioned this one previously in my Top 5 post. It’s an Isolde and Tristan retelling, YA fantasy. The cover is beautiful and the synopsis sounds like my type of book.
I feel like this is a nice collection of books and can’t wait to get around to reading all of these. The contemporary-a-thon is coming up soon so you’ll find out if I end up reading any of these contemporaries.
