It’s time for this week’s Top 5 Tuesday hosted by Shanah over at her blog, the Bionic Book Worm. I missed the last couple of weeks of this as I couldn’t come up with anything to write for those prompts. As it’s the last couple of weeks of Top 5 Tuesday for this year, I really wanted to participate them as I have really enjoyed writing these and will definitely be doing them next year too.
Anyway, this week’s (as you can tell from the title!) is my Top 5 Surprising Reads for 2019. To be honest, I had to go through my Goodreads to see the books I’ve read. I think I’ve come up with a pretty good top 5 for me.
1. Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles
I have never read a series so fast before. Perfect Chemistry is the first book in the trilogy and I did like the topics discussed as well as the banter between the two main characters. So yeah this series was a surprise on how much I loved it as I started it on a whim.
2. Jane Eyre (Manga classics)
I’m not one to really read that many classics but thanks to Manga classics I actually know the story of Jane Eyre. This was a story out of my comfort zone but this adaptation allowed me to get to know a new classic and I really enjoyed myself.
3. When a Scott Ties the Knot by Tessa Dare
This is another book I started on a whim. This is the book that started my love for Tessa Dare’s writing. I came across this on kindle sounded like a fun read and fell in love with it.
4. Pestilence by Laura Thalassa
Again, another spontaneous read and one I really liked. I read this one and the next book straight afterwards and patiently waiting for the third installment. Maybe I should start reading books more on a whim they seemed to be good options.
5. Eleanor Oliphant is Completely by Gail Honeyman
On the other hand, as I just talked about reading more books on a whim this is an example on how that can go wrong. I’ll admit this was bought because I liked the cover. However, sadly, this was a surprise read as it wasn’t one I really enjoyed. I thought I was going to like it but because I didn’t really going into the book knowing what it’s about I felt kinda lost the whole time and to this day not 100% what it’s all about. I think I wasn’t the target audience so sadly didn’t love it as much as people raved about it.
